Read the pitch from the ground. Shoot every photo straight.
Roof pitch and Level are built into the LibreCam camera. Line the sight line up with the gable's sloped edge to read the pitch, or turn on Level for a horizon line and overhead bubbles that tell you when the shot is square.
How roof pitch works
Turn on Roof pitch
In photo mode, open the camera options and pick Roof pitch. A sight line crosses the viewfinder with the reading in the middle.
Face the gable and line it up
Stand square to the gable end, hold the phone upright, and tilt it until the line sits on the sloped edge — the rake, not the gutter or the ridge.
Read it, then say it
The pitch shows snapped to the nearest half pitch, with the angle beside it: 8.0/12 · 34°. Say it as a voice caption and it stays with the photo.
Roof pitch, built for the walk-around
Pitch the way roofers write it
Snapped to whole and half pitches and shown as x/12, with the angle in degrees beside it. In the app's Spanish and French, the same roof reads as a slope percentage.
Corrects for how you hold it
A phone tipped back from the gable sees a flatter roof than the one in front of it. LibreCam measures the tilt and takes it back out, and asks you to hold upright when the angle is too far off to trust.
Says when it can't read
One line of guidance under the reading — line up with the sloped edge, hold the phone upright, or too steep to read — instead of a confident number it shouldn't give.
A first read before anyone climbs
Read the pitch from anywhere you can see the gable end, before the ladder comes off the truck. Confirm on the roof before you order material.
Keep the number with the photo
The reading is on screen while you frame the shot. Say it — 'front gable, eight twelve' — and the voice caption carries it into the report.
Level: straight photos, square overhead shots
For every trade, not just roofing. Level reads the phone, so the photo comes out straight.
A horizon that taps when you're straight
A line follows gravity with the tilt in whole degrees. At 0° the frame rings and the phone gives one gentle tap, so you can shoot without watching the number.
Overhead mode for flat shots
Point the phone straight down at a slab, a panel on the bench or a layout on the floor, and two bubbles converge when it's square to the ground.
Zero it to any angle
Tap the reading to set the current angle as zero, then match it shot after shot. Tap again to go back to true level.
Photo and video, front and back
Level works in both modes and on both cameras, with the grid on or off. The tap stays quiet while you're recording.
Nothing drawn on the photo
Level guides the shot. The saved photo is exactly what the camera saw, with no lines or numbers on it.
Why a straight photo matters
A crooked photo reads as careless to an adjuster or a client, and two crooked photos are hard to compare. Level puts the before and the after on the same horizon, so before/after pairs line up, and it squares overhead shots so a panel, a slab or a layout isn't distorted by the angle it was shot from. On a roof job, the pitch read at the gable goes into the same record as the elevations and the damage — see how that fits the roofing workflow.
Frequently Asked Questions
Use it for the first read and for the record, not for the order. It snaps to the nearest half pitch and is most accurate standing square to the gable end with the phone upright. Confirm on the roof or with a measurement report before you order.
Not today. The reading is on screen while you frame the shot and nothing is written into the image. Say it as a voice caption and it travels with the photo into the report.
Tipping the phone back makes the roof look flatter than it is. LibreCam corrects for a moderate tilt, and past that it stops reading rather than show a number that's off.
No. Level reads the phone, not the surface, so your photos come out straight and overhead shots come out square. Keep a real level for the work itself.
One at a time. Turning one on turns the other off. The grid works with either.
Nothing. Roof pitch and Level are part of the LibreCam camera on the free plan.
